President's Corner for September 2023
Good end of summer members of BV,
As I mentioned last month, we are getting closer to the archery opener in southeast Pa. Most of us are already sighting in or readying our equipment and buying what we lost or broke last year.
Speaking of deer hunting, it was just a handful of years ago the game commission, after a ten-year long debate legalized the use of a dog to help recover wounded game. But over the past few months I have watched on TV several shows that a company rents their services using highly sophisticated drones to do the work of recovering the game. Now I am all for whatever means to recover an animal, but...
Here is my fear. Outlaws can also use these drones to watch and track animals for their criminal ways. Now I have full faith in the game commission, it will be debated for years before a decision is voted on.
Just a note, there has been one ruling regarding the use of drones, in PA it is already unlawful to operate a drone on or above state game lands.

Outdoor Range - September

Outdoor Range & Other Items
This month's Highpower match will be held Sunday, the 24th and will be of the offhand variety. Service, match, sporting and target rifles will be allowed. The match will consist of two targets at 100 yards, 25 shots each, with a short break period between. Match begins at 9 AM.
Black Powder shooters will meet on Sunday the 3rd at 9AM for the usual informal event. Muzzleloaders and black powder cartridge firearms qualify for this shoot.
I have had a couple of reports of members (and guests) disregarding safety procedures at the outdoor range. You are only allowed down range after all firing has ceased, all firearms are made safe, unhandled and flagged, and the safety lights are blinking. Stay focused.
Starting this month nominations are open for all line officer seats and two seats on the Board of Directors.
Shoot safely or stay home.

Fish Committee September

Fishing Committee September 2023
We have stocked 52 Channel Catfish that are 8 inches as a sample that may lead to more catfish in the future. We want to insure the continued maintenance of the bass and bluegill population before adding more catfish.
Most members enjoying the summer fishing do so on a catch and release basis and we are establishing a requirement that you release catfish until further notice.
If successful, these fish will be 12inches in 6 months. We hope the rest of the fish continue to thrive as well.
The hatchery recommends the mix of species and there has been continued request from members and the Board. Please note any catches on the fish reporting sheet at the member sign in desk.
